In the 2023-24 school year I piloted a reflective practice program for K-12 educators in small group and individual sessions. Participants reported feeling a greater sense of connection to colleagues, increased self-awareness, increased ability to cope with challenges, and an increased awareness of how their own identity and experience shaped their reactions to others. I am excited to now offer this work to other schools and professional teams.

Reflective practice is a framework that guides the facilitated reflection on how a person reacted to and perceived an event that seeks to integrate emotional, sensory and cognitive responses in a way that deepens someone’s capacity for self-awareness and ability to hold multiple perspectives.  Research on reflective practice in the fields of medicine, law and early childhood education has shown that it decreases rates of staff burnout, increases quality of care for clients, and increases staff engagement in equity work.
